Homes for Haiti Challenge
We have all seen the headlines over the past few weeks regarding the incredible devastation in Haiti. Many have expressed the desire to do something to help, but have been overwhelmed with the question, “what can I do to make a difference?”
One of the greatest needs identified is lack of adequate shelter. While tent cities are cropping up, this is only a temporary fix and an unsafe environment for women and children. It is imperative that basic, long term shelter be provided for individuals and families as soon as possible.
The Disaster Relief Committee of the Church of God has worked hard to develop a long term housing solution. The plan is to work with a Dutch company that produces a wooden 20' x 10' two-room home that can be purchased and constructed on a concrete slab for approximately $3400. The Disaster Relief Committee has submitted an initial order for 100 homes. These homes will be designated for Church of God families and individuals in the devastated areas.
